driving modern JavaScript use across multiple product lines.
A global software leader with decades of software engineering excellence faced a strategic inflection point: to modernize its legacy desktop products into cloud-connected, web-enabled platforms. This transition required a rapid shift in front-end capabilities across distributed engineering teams.
Most engineers were experienced in C++ and desktop development, but lacked fluency in modern JavaScript and frameworks, such as React. This gap limited the speed to delivery and created a dependency on external hires for key front-end work. Leadership sought to build this capability through training to strengthen engineering agility and accelerate product modernization – and they brought in Galvanize to help.
Galvanize conducted technical interviews and skills diagnostics to identify gaps in web application fundamentals and modern JavaScript practices. Together with engineering leadership, we defined key learning objectives focused on client-side development, API integration, and scalable application structure.
A 4-week structured learning path was designed, combining JavaScript Essentials self-paced pre-work with a 10-day instructor-led immersive training. The curriculum focused on ES2015+ features, React component architecture, asynchronous programming patterns, and integrating APIs – all tailored directly to the company’s product environment.
Participants advanced through structured labs, pair programming, and cumulative sprints, leading to a final project that integrated APIs. Instruction blended lectures, applied projects, and collaborative exercises to mirror production development practices. Instructors and internal subject matter experts (SMEs) ensured contextual alignment with existing company systems and workflows.
Pre- and post-assessments measured technical skill lift across core competencies, including ES2015 syntax, React components, asynchronous code patterns, and API integration. Surveys captured Net Promoter Scores and practical readiness. Participants demonstrated a 70% skill lift.
The upskilling initiative enabled the company to accelerate its front-end modernization strategy by converting experienced engineers into effective React developers without external hiring dependencies.
Participants reported increased confidence in applying modern JavaScript practices directly to their ongoing work in API and web services, improving velocity and collaboration between teams.
Galvanize partners with global enterprises to build internal engineering capability at scale. Our model — Collaborate, Translate, Innovate, Validate — ensures learning is embedded in real work, producing measurable impact on speed, quality, and innovation.
