The Data Analyst Training Accelerator (DATA) at Galvanize – our free, full-time, 18-week, in-person immersive training program – was developed in direct response to industry feedback from some of the city’s largest tech employers. Offered in partnership with the NYC Tech Talent Pipeline, this program is designed to equip unemployed and underemployed New Yorkers with the in-demand skills necessary to launch careers in data and marketing analysis. Participants will learn advanced Excel, SQL, Python, and digital marketing-related analytics, as well as career advancement and interview skills. Build a Professional Portfolio

Being able to showcase your skills is the key to landing a data analytics job, and our project-based curriculum will teach you how to make data-driven decisions in the workplace by building projects that you can share with future employers. Using industry-standard tools and real-world datasets, you’ll master data analysis fundamentals and become an expert in finding and utilizing insights to tell compelling stories to colleagues and stakeholders. DATA graduates are job-ready from the day they complete this program.

Capstone Project & Job Readiness

To complete our immersive program, you will work independently on a Capstone Project that you choose based on interest and career goals. These projects reflect the technical skills you learn throughout the course and showcase your fitness and expertise as a data analyst. The capstone project will help students understand how to create, implement, and communicate data analysis solutions in a real-world industry scenario. Upon completion, students will get the opportunity to present their Capstone Project at a hiring day event (Capstone Showcase Day) attended by employers from New York City.

Eligibility Requirements

This career-accelerating opportunity is made possible by our partnership with the New York City Tech Talent Pipeline and is available to those who meet the following criteria:

  • You are at least 18 years old
  • You're a current resident of New York City
  • You have no prior professional experience as a data analyst
  • You are unemployed or earn less than $45,000 a year
  • You are authorized to work in the United States
  • And for men: You meet federal selective service requirement

Program Outline

The Data Analyst Training Accelerator (DATA) is an 18-week program and concludes with a Capstone Showcase.

Pre-course: Intro to Data Analysis, Excel, & Python

Prior to admission to the course, applicants spend ~16 hours studying the online, self-paced pre-course material to prepare for the Data Analyst program. The pre-course covers foundational skills including Programming (Python Foundations) and Excel. The Data Analyst pre-course is administered through Galvanize’s internal learning management software, Galvanize Learn.

Communicating with Data

Students will learn the basic and core components of different methods to extract, load, and transform data with different techniques and tools, before taking a deeper dive into communication and visualization.

Python, Probability, and Statistics

Students will learn Python Fundamentals and be introduced to various exploratory data analysis, statistical thinking, and data mining and modeling techniques simulating real on-the-job scenarios.

Break Week

Students will take a one-week break before resuming the program.

Marketing Analytics

This two-week course will give students an overview of the specific skills required in Marketing Analytics. Students will get the opportunity to hear from several industry experts on the challenges involved in this particular field, and will work on a small project in marketing analytics.

Capstone Project

The course concludes with an individual Capstone Project, which encompasses everything learned in the program, and prepares students for a role as a Marketing Data Analyst. The Capstone Project will help students understand real industry concepts on how to create, implement, and communicate data analysis solutions in a real industry scenario.
