Become an Alexa Skills Developer: Build Applications for Voice

Galvanize is teaming up with the Amazon to bring Alexa skills workshops to 7 of our campuses! Whether you’re a developer, designer, or tech enthusiast, this workshop will teach you how to create your very own custom skills for Alexa, the voice service that powers Amazon Echo.

What is Alexa?

Alexa, the voice service that powers Echo, provides capabilities, or skills, that enable customers to interact with devices in a more intuitive way using voice. Examples of these skills include the ability to play music, answer general questions, set an alarm or timer and more. Alexa is built in the cloud, so it is always getting smarter. The more customers use Alexa, the more it adapts to speech patterns, vocabulary, and personal preferences.

Galvanize prepares you to get a job with Data Science Capstone projects.

Who is this workshop for?

Tech enthusiasts and developers are encouraged to join--no development experience required!

What will I learn?

Workshop attendees will learn about voice user interfaces (VUI) and will gain experience with three services: Amazon’s Alexa Skills Kit, AWS Lambda, and the Node.js backend JavaScript framework.

How long does it take?

One half-day session at a Galvanize campus.
