About the event:

Functions are one of the most common (and most fundamental) aspects of computer programming. Functions exist in nearly all programming languages, and the basic construct is very similar from language to language. We’re going to discuss how to create, use, and talk about functions in JavaScript.

What you will learn:

Define (in English) a function.
Define (in JavaScript) a function.
Use function specific jargon
“call” or “invoke” a function
“return” a value from a function
pass “parameters” to a function
use the “arguments” keyword
Differentiate between “named” and “anonymous” functions
Define the “scope” of a function
BONUS: Describe the difference between the var and let keywords

Schedule:

6:00 pm – Doors open

6:15 pm – Workshop Starts

7:45 pm – Q&A

Prerequisites:

A very basic understanding of Javascript will help you get the most out of this meetup — if you know what variables, loops, and if statements are, then this talk will be accessible to you. You do not have to be a master of these topics, but if you have not heard the term “variable” before, you may feel lost.

What to bring:

Your laptop and a smile.
